What does it take to be a foster parent?

There are a few steps required to become a foster parent, but all you really need is LOVE. Yep, the Beatles had it right. All you need is love. But if you want to learn about those steps, keep reading.

STEP ONE - APPLICATION

Fill out our short application to get started. We’ll do the rest.

STEP TWO - TRAINING

You didn’t think we’d throw you in the deep end of the pool without a float did you? Just the opposite. Our training will prepare you for the amazing journey ahead.

STEP THREE - HOME VISIT

We need to make sure your home is ready for a visitor, but don’t worry. If it isn’t ready, we’ll help you get it ready.

STEP FOUR - PAPERWORK

Paperwork is never fun, but it sure is necessary. We’ll help you cross every “t” and dot every “i”.

STEP FIVE - BACKGROUND CHECKS

We know you have no skeletons in your closet, but the government wants proof. Necco makes background checks quick and painless!

John

“Necco is supportive and they care about foster parents as much as foster children and when you need someone to talk to about a situation there is always someone to talk to and help.”

Alice (Grayson, KY)

"I foster with Necco because they have always been so supportive and understanding of what is going on with our family and the children placed in our home."

The Necco Experience

Necco is a close-knit, social organization that takes pride in building families. We’re committed to the foster parents and foster children we serve and we work hard to find the ideal match for both parent and child in order to limit moves and additional trauma that foster children often experience. Once placed, we will be a constant source of support to ensure you and your foster child have the best possible connection and outcome.

WHO CANNOT BE A FOSTER PARENT

Fostering isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay. If you cannot be a foster parent, we encourage you to be an active advocate for children. Here are the main reasons some individuals cannot become foster parents.

  • Prohibitive criminal offenses
  • Must be 21 years old or older
  • Must have sufficient income
  • Insufficient room in your home
  • No valid driver’s license
  • Lack of reliable transportation

YOU DON’T NEED TO BE A SUPERHERO

Our parents don’t have special powers or wear capes. They just pack lunches, drive to soccer practice, and give small, consistent acts of kindness and love. That’s it. But to be honest, we still think they’re super. Our kids think so too.
