On April 12th the 8th annual “Butterflies for Maddie” 5K walk and run was held at the Barren County YMCA. The event is held each year in memory of Madilyn Morgan who passed away suddenly in 2005, less than one month before her 7th birthday. Maddie’s passing was the result of the rare Pulmonary Veno Occlusive Disease. Hundreds of people participated to raise awareness and money for research of this rare illness, including several Necco youth and staff. A huge shout out to all Necco youth who attended this event and gave it their all! One of our youth placed third in his age group in the 5K run while another Necco youth won a fantastic door prize - a Carhartt Jacket!
Several Necco youth completed the 3 mile route in just over 21 minutes. That’s nearly a 7 minute mile! Add beautiful weather and lots of laughter and you have an event that was one to remember. Thank you to everyone who attended for joining the community in remembering Maddie and helping to make the world a better place!
